威厳: Dignity

Eagles are large birds of prey known for their speed, strength and keen eyesight. Armed with impeccable hunting skills yet possessing a dignified demeanour, eagles are often held in high regard. Takagari (鷹狩), Japanese falconry was a sport for the noble class and a symbol of status and their warrior spirit.

In Japanese mythology, an eagle god existed in the form of Amenohiwashi-no-kami. When Amaterasu (Goddess of the Sun) was to be lured out of her cave in the midst of an elaborated ritual to end a dreadful catastrophe, an eagle perched at the end of an stringed instrument that was playing. And when she finally exited the cave, it was believed that light returned through the eagle. Thus it was said that the sighting of an eagle is an auspicious omen.

Eagles exist in a different dimension from us. It symbolises the great power of nature since ancient times. In our time, it is difficult to experience the immense respect Japanese ancestors had for large birds but they still remain integral to the Japanese culture and religion.
