Description

The Jin Yi Wei (锦衣卫) were the elite imperial guards and secret police of the Ming Dynasty, serving directly under the emperor. Founded in the late 14th century, they were entrusted with protection, intelligence gathering, and investigation, wielding authority that placed them above conventional law. Their presence alone was enough to command fear and respect, as they acted solely in the emperor’s name.

Closely associated with them is the Xiu Chun Dao (繡春刀), a distinctive sidearm that signified office, trust, and absolute loyalty. More than a practical blade, it was a mark of imperial mandate — a symbol of discipline and responsibility rather than ornament or excess. To carry such a weapon was to embody order, vigilance, and unwavering duty.

This Jin Yi Wei Dao pays homage to that legacy. For the collector, it represents more than a historical weapon; it is a tribute to one of imperial China’s most enigmatic institutions, symbolising authority earned through loyalty and restraint, and a reminder of the quiet power held by those who served in the shadows.
