Description

Richard I was King of England from 1189-99. He was the third of five sons of King Henry II of England and Duchess Eleanor of Aquitaine. He was known as Richard Cœur de Lion or Richard the Lionheart because of his reputation as a great military leader and warrior. Richard was a central Christian commander during the Third Crusade and scored considerable victories against his Muslim counterpart, Saladin, although he failed to re-take Jerusalem. He remains one of the few kings of England who is remembered by his epithet, rather than a regnal number and is an enduring iconic figure both in England and in France.

This dagger is manufactured in the Art Gladius factory in Toledo, Spain. Its ornate hilt is adorned with the three lions crest of Richard the Lionheart. The broad stainless steel blade has a fuller and is etched with heraldic devices.
