The Kaeru Wakizashi features a hand-forged and folded powder steel blade with a medium-length (chu) kissaki, combining both strength and refined craftsmanship. The saya is deeply lacquered in black, complementing the tsuka, which is wrapped in high-quality samegawa (rayskin) and premium dark blue Japanese cotton tsuka-ito.
A striking blackened iron tsuba, adorned with gold and silver detailing, depicts a serene scene of a frog resting on a lily pad. This theme continues with the silk sageo, elegantly handwoven in dark blue and moss green. The fuchi and kashira are finished in black with brass accents, while the kojiri, koiguchi, and kurikata are crafted from polished buffalo horn. The one-piece brass habaki completes the wakizashi's refined aesthetics.
In Japanese culture, the frog (kaeru) is considered a symbol of luck and safe return. The word kaeru (帰る) also means "to return," making the Kaeru Wakizashi a meaningful talisman for travelers and warriors alike.
Please note: the sageo (cord) on the saya (scabbard) may not be wrapped as pictured. Sageo colour may vary.
