The kukri, or khukuri, is a knife from the Indian subcontinent and is usually associated with the Nepalese-speaking Gurkhas of Nepal and India. It has a distinct recurve in its blade and is often used as a tool and as a weapon in the Indian subcontinent. It is traditionally (and still is) the basic utility knife of a Gurkha and is a characteristic weapon of all Gurkha regiments around the world. Kukri is also used in traditional rites such as wedding ceremonies. A kukri is primarily used for chopping and as a general guide, is designed to be between 40-45cm overall for practicality sake. Kukris usually come with decorated scabbards or sheaths. A traditional scabbard also holds two small blades, a Karda and Chakmak.
